Music

OK sisters and wife. Next topic.

I want you to tell me what music, not perfomed by U2, has impacted you the most.

I think that I'm going to need a little bit of time to think about this one. I'll wait for your answers and post my own in the comments within the next couple of days.

Sorry about the no U2 rule. It would just be a little too obvious. Maybe take it one step further. What single piece of music has influenced you? U2 inclued.

The single piece of music that has influenced me to be more socially aware would be U2's Pride, the Music that influenced me in college and vocally would be anything written by Stephen Sondheim.

But thinking about what inspired me to love music it was listening to the Utah Symphony on the radio Sunday nights ... a long time ago, when Maurice Abravanel was still conducting...wow I'm old.

OK - so probably the piece of music that has impacted me most is "Clair De Lune" by Claude Debussey. I know it's not U2, but it really shows that I'm a hopeless romantic and love to listen to the story Debussey tells with this beautiful piece. The U2 song that touches my heart the most would probably be "Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own" the song is about Bono's father who he never got along with. The part where he sings "you're the opera in me..." makes me cry every time.

Boy you gave us a tough one. Hmmm. Let me think as I sit here listening to U2. I guess i'm not very original "Clair de Lune" is my very favorite piece of music, but in my defense I loved it before Emily did. The music has always spoken to my soul. I also love Beethoven's "Ode to Joy". It's one of the few things I remember singing in Mormon Youth. Now to the important U2 stuff. There are so many great songs, but the two that stick out for me are "In the name of Love" and my personal favorite "I Still Havent Found What I'm Looking For". I think I'll always be looking.

Em, you do realize that when you were like 6... Sarah was like 15... I think she liked Debussy before you did. You forget how old she is. You should have seen her walking around this weekend like she had a bad hip and talking like she just turned 80...I know, I know, I'm right behind her. :-)

Sarah would only listen to Country Music until she was 35...you know it and I know it...I liked Debussey first.

Thanks a lot you two!!! Whatever Em!! I know it's all about you and what you like. I know I was walking around like a real gimp. Trust me I hate getting older.

Sorry Matt! It's typical that since your sisters cant fight in person we have to fight on your blog.

You're right Matt...ugh...I'm old...but EVERYONE has to admit that Sarah didn't start listening to real music until she was like 35...OK maybe 30...Sorry Sarah - I'm not fighting you, just stating the facts.

I listened to all kinds of music even when I did listen to country. You only focused on the country. I guess I have always had a broader musical taste than you have. I'm not fighting either. I just tell the truth.

Okay girls, it's time to call a draw. Yes, Em, you've loved Debussy forever, and so have you Sarah. Who knows maybe you both knew him in the pre-existence and met him at the same time and ... alright, I'm grasping.

I forgot one VERY important band:

Smoking Popes

I freaking LOVE them, and have for over ten years. I even got to see them in concert while I was in DC. It was FANTASTIC!
